World Game Cup 2012 – Cannes, France – 17th-19th February

The fifth annual World Game Cup is kicking off next month in France. While it’s a little further afield than our usual tournament announcements, many Irish players have travelled to this event in the past (Doctor DooM took top 8 in MvC3 last year) and our largest entourage yet is making the trip this year.

With team and solo tournaments in Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition Version 2012, Soulcalibur V, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, King of Fighters XIII, Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike Online Edition, Blazblue Continuum Shift Extend, The King Of Fighters 2002 UM and Mortal Kombat plus extra side events in Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Street Fighter X Tekken this is shaping up to be a massive event.
For more spice, several world class players from Japan will also be making their way to the event, including Tokido, Mago, Kindevu and EVO World Champion Fuudo.

Registration is closing soon so head over to the World Games Cup website for more info.

Also be sure to check out our forums to discuss your travel plans with the rest of the Irish heading over.

Soul Calibur V – Four Character Trailer.

Namco recently dropped a new trailer for Soul Cal V Showing off 3 returning characters and a Kilik clone.

Xiba, a mouthy staff weilding twerp who needs a punch in the fuck, a non ghostly version of everyone’s favourite ghost pirate Cervantes, Lizardman who is now a part time dragon going by his name Aeon, and Yoshimitsu, who is Yoshimitsu. Trailer is below, so have a gander.

Soul Calibur V – Character Creation Mode

Character creation modes suck. There, I said it. From Ace in Street Fighter Ex 3 to the simpler grove creation in CvS2, it’s always just a fiddly after-thought, in no way useful for tournament play. The creation options are usually limited and you always just turn the sliders up full anyway and end up with a 7ft 40 stone blueskinned woman with a mohawk called Luscious Rhonda who is about to challenge the Rock in a ladder match. Until you get bored 14 seconds into the match with your under powered and awkwardly animated character..

Well Tago-san, Soul Calibur V’s producer, thinks he and the guys at project soul have come up with a character creation system that isn’t lame. Is he right? Probably not, but why not judge for yourself from the demo video below, will Villager A become a warrior? Let’s find out:

Promised to contain demonstrations of new characters, and a Q&A session held via the #SCV_live hashtag.

Kayane’s impressions of Lexia from Soul Calibur 5

Over on her blog Kayane has written about her experience of trying out Xianghua’s daughter Lexia for the first time, while at the Paris game show.

With a rejigged command list, and complaints of a dodgy ps3 pad, Kayane’s says she felt at first like a good beginner, nonetheless she gives a rundown of how Lexia felt and with a 15 odd minute gameplay video to boot

I’ve embedded the video for your pleasure, and you can check out the blog post here, written in dual languages so even if you’re not into Soul Calibur it provides a nice refresher course in French.

Everything you wanted to know about Soul Calibur V but were afraid to ask?

Madcatz have announced today their collaboration with Namco Bandai to create the Soul Calibur V Arcade FightStick Soul Edition!

Similar in style to the Limited Edition Chun Li TE, which I’m sure you remember we gave as prizes during our Evo qualifier comp, this stick is not without it’s own unique style.

Features:

  • Translucent body and artwork of both Soul Calibur and Soul Edge
  • Changed Bezeling, to the “EDGE” design, whatever that is.
  • Changed Button and stick Layout, Namco NOIR style, close to that of the Sega Astro City
  • No more Rusty Screws – Stainless Steel – The 4 left in my TE S are nearly as rusty as my playing.

But enough chat, lets get some pics, click  the pic to the right to see bigger, or hit the jump below.

Soul Calibur V – Ezio & Dampierre trailers

Ok so we’re a little late on this, but we lack an animus to go back and sort that out so you’ll have to make do with it now.

Namco have revealed in two trailers of astounding contrasts in quality: Ezio Auditore da Firenze; the Florentine nobleman and secret assassin, and Damhibiki Dampierre; the con artist comic relief.

Here’s Ezio’s trailer, Dampierre’s is hidden after the break.
